Small Steps, Big Wins: Overcome Overwhelm with the PIPS Framework

From Overwhelm to Sustainable Progress: How the PIPS Framework Transforms Life, Leadership, and Business

Well, we made it to the other side of the craziness of Black Friday and now we enter the craziness of pre-holiday season!

I have been trying to fight the temptation of putting the things on my to-do list off, and keep catching myself thinking, I can do that over the Christmas break!

The problem is if I put things off for the break I won't have much of one, so I am doing my best to stay disciplined and doing the things I said I would do when I said I would do them!

Where to Even Start!

It is all a balancing act, isn't it?

We know that balance doesn't happen unless we make it happen. I know I have a lot to get done over the next couple of weeks however, it will mean that I can leave the laptop behind when I go on a short trip to Norway before the break and only have to log on certain days during the holiday break.

It does mean being more flexible and letting go of certain things - like perfection! I mean, does it really matter if you get the newsletter at 8 am instead of 7 am if it meant I could log off at a decent time yesterday and do it this morning? Probably not!

Why Progress Over Perfection Matters in Business and Life

Sustainable progress comes from aligning actions with purpose and structure—this is where my 'PIPS framework' makes all the difference.

I have been testing this over the last couple of months, and using the framework more openly with clients so that they can use it too.

The 'PIPS framework' (Plan, Intention, Performance, Structure) works in many ways and can help break the cycle of overwhelm by creating clarity, focus, and momentum:

Here's how: (if you want to know more scroll down for the workshop later this month!)

Introducing the PIPS Framework: Plan, Intention, Performance, Structure

Plan: Start with small, actionable steps towards your bigger goals.

Intention: Ensure your actions align with your core values and purpose.

Performance: Prioritise consistency over perfection. Show up, even in small ways.

Structure: Build routines and boundaries that make progress sustainable, not stressful.

How to Overcome Overwhelm with Clarity and Focus

Plan: Small, manageable actions keep your goals realistic and achievable.

Example: Instead of planning a full day of work on your business, set a "bronze-level" action like reviewing your to-do list or responding to one client email.

Intention: By staying connected to your "why," you can focus on what really matters instead of getting caught up in busy work.

Example: If spending time with family is a priority, let that guide your choices.

Performance: Showing up consistently—even imperfectly—builds momentum and confidence.

Example: Writing 1-3 quality social media posts a week instead of aiming for daily posts.

Structure: A flexible, supportive framework allows you to adapt without losing progress.

Example: A weekly review to adjust priorities based on your current capacity.

Steps to Align Your Goals with Purpose and Progress

Plan:

Define one achievable action that moves you forward this week. Make it simple and measurable.

Intention:

Reflect on your values. Does this action align with your priorities? If not, adjust it.

Performance:

Commit to doing something, even if it’s not perfect. Remember: progress is cumulative.

Structure:

Schedule this action and block out the time. Protect it like a non-negotiable appointment.

I am in the process of trademarking this framework as I think it is such a great tool that can be useful in life, leadership and business and such a great way to help clients with a structured way to look at what, how and why they are doing what is needed to be successful - and happy!

Progress doesn’t require perfection—it requires purpose and alignment. I am hoping that by sharing the 'PIPS framework' with you, that you can make meaningful strides in your goals without burnout or overwhelm.

This week, challenge yourself to apply the PIPS framework:

Choose one goal.

Use the PIPS pillars (Plan, Intention, Performance, Structure) to break it into manageable steps.

Show up, even if it’s not perfect.

When you align your actions with your purpose and create a simple structure to support them, progress becomes inevitable.

Wishing you a productive and intentional week, I would love for you to share your progress or questions about the PIPS framework, and hopefully see you at the workshop on the 11th.

Take care for now

Zoe
